Pregnant molly and platy fish?
November 9, 2009
Last week I purchased 3 creamsicle platys, 1 dalmation molly, and 3 silver lyre-tail mollys. The dalmation molly is very round and I believe is pregnant. My male silver molly has been mating with a creamsicle platy everyday for the past week and yesterday I noticed a dark spot near her anal fin that was not there a few days ago. Is this her gravid spot or a sign of illness? I have a couple pics let me know what you think!

Try as they will, mollies and platies cannot get each other pregnant. They must have the same genus to produce offspring (mollies and guppies can mate, swordtails and platies can mate).
But a female platy can hold a male’s sperm for months and produce several batches of offspring without a male platy in the tank.

Yes, it is her gravid spot and it sounds like she’s pregnant.
